Yup, I was having the same problem as Frank.

Re-downloading the legacy 10.6 version was the solution.

I did nothing else ... I'm very well aware of the damage potential from any other action. I just wanted to understand why ...

Yes, 1.1.12.3 works fine ... all back to normal.

I'd still be interested in knowing a bit more about the MACSFANCONTROL file located here:

/private/var/folders/Ra/Rahwcn-bFgqn3y5Q-fehl++++TQ/-Tmp-

As I said in a previous post, /private is a hidden directory.
