Yup, I was having the same problem as Frank.
Re-downloading the legacy 10.6 version was the solution.
Thanks for highlighting the problem, Frank, and thanks to CrystalIDEA for solving it!

Re: Drop support of OS X 10.6
This particular iMac functions basically as a file sharing unit. The five client computers are ancient, but work just fine, and are running Leopard ... one is even running Tiger! With SL installed, this iMac has performed absolutely flawlessly, and the client computers have no problems connecting to...

Re: Drop support of OS X 10.6
Thanks very much for this version, disabling update check. I remotely administer an iMac, running 10.6.8. It has a faulty fan sensor, which causes the CPU fan to run at full speed all the time. Macs Fan Control (1.2.1) has tamed this very nicely but, because the iMac auto starts in the morning, ther...

Re: 1.1.12.2 does not start after updater dialog
Thanks for the response re: the MACFANSCONTROL file in the /private/var/ - directory. All I did was locate the file with a search, and then determined that it was an empty file. I did nothing else ... I'm very well aware of the damage potential from any other action. I just wanted to understand why ...

Re: 1.1.12.2 does not start after updater dialog
Yes, 1.1.12.3 works fine ... all back to normal.
I'd still be interested in knowing a bit more about the MACSFANCONTROL file located here:
/private/var/folders/Ra/Rahwcn-bFgqn3y5Q-fehl++++TQ/-Tmp-
As I said in a previous post, /private is a hidden directory.

Re: UPDATE DIALOG INTERFERING WITH STARTUP
music-listener, I also have Macs Fan Control 1.1.12.2 installed on my own iMac 11,1, running 10.6.8, and, mysteriously, it has stopped working today for me as well ... it was working fine just yesterday. I never saw the new version dialog on this machine, unlike the iMac server I referenced in my ea...

1.1.12.2 does not start after updater dialog
Macs Fan Control 1.1.12.2 is installed on an iMac running Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, and has been very effective in controlling the CPU fan, which was running at full speed because of a faulty sensor. This iMac functions mainly as a file server, and autostarts each morning, mostly unattended. The problem...
