Want to make sure I understand...link only fan to one item?

Post by jimendelson »

Hello all,

great utility, but want to make sure I understand. i am on a late 2012 27" iMac. we recently replaced our fusion drive that had failed. We now have one SSD and one HHD. It was our feeling that the HDD was making the iMac fan go crazy.

Macs Fan Control has solved that problem. We've linked the one main fan to the sensor based value of the HDD (based on the seagate website of max allowed temp for the drive).

I just want to confirm that we can only link the fan to to one item. if so, should i not worry about the temperature of the CPU and cores or the SSD, etc??? Is there anything else I should be doing?

Thanks in advance!

I'd try setting constant speed for your case, like 1400-1500 and see if it can handle the situation.
When Profiles feature will be ready, it will be easier to switch different fan profiles (gaming, normal, etc.).

Hello,

I just wondered if there was a different answer to my question, now that there have been several updates to macs fan control.

Is it best to continue to using a constant fan speed or are there sensors now for different parts of the machine....? Cores vs SSD, etc...??

I am now on El C OS. Thank you in advance!
