Control fans on Apple hardware: iMacs, Macbooks, etc

Could I make a request to move the update checker function to have it load AFTER the old version spins up the fans?
On macs that rely on this to keep them from turning them into a pile of molten goo, halting the fan spinup for a manual interaction can be devastating.

or better yet have an option to disable update checking? :roll:
