1.48 + won't work on OS X 10.11

I installed 1.48 and 1.48.1 (got the same behavior) on my iMac 14,2. It initially works, then after a reboot or two, the app icon changes to a generic document and the app won't run at all. Restoring to 1.47 and all is well. Any ideas?

By the way, when I was running 1.47, it kept nagging me to upgrade (even though I turned all that off) and wouldn't automatically run.

Same issue, fan running at 4500 RPM. I have tried reinstalling, resetting, resetting the SMC.
