Loosing current ODD fan speed control

Post by gmontier »

Hi there,
I keep loosing the ODD fan control and then the fan goes to maximum speed by default.
When I reset the SMC it goes back to normal and I can control it again but 20mn later again the 0 in orange appears and the fan is out of control.
My iMac is a mid-2011 and I added an SDD in the place of the ODD. The HDD is still in place and I can control the fan as well as the CPU fan.
Thanks for the help
G.M.

Hi,

ODD fan is responsible for cooling down GPU. There was a temp sensor connected to the optical drive. You must have forgotten to connect it back to the SSD.

Hi,

OK thanks I will get it back to the shop who did the installation of the SSD to check that sensor but why then the fan is working fine at the beginning (reboot or reset SMC) and starts going full speed after 20mn?

When the fan begins to spin, do you see this change in the app? Or is it always displaying 0 rpm ?

It is not displaying 0 rpm when I start the iMac or when it goes out of sleeping mode. It shoes the current speed and I can change the speed using your app. But after a while then the fan starts to turn full speed and only the 0 rpm shows in the app.

and it is the same behavior if I set the the fan using a constant value or based on the temp sensor (like the SSD temp settings)

Not sure, maybe they did something wrong with the sensor connector. Did you try to reset SMC?
