Macs Fan Control not working properly anymore since update

Post by anonimuz »

Hello,
I have been using Macs Fan Control on my mid-2011 27" iMac ever since I put in an aftermarket SSD (Samsung 840 EVO). Unfortunately the app has been malfunctioning since yesterday's update (12 February 2015). Even though I let the OS control my CPU fan-speed, this fan is in 'Auto' mode in the app, Macs Fan Control sets it to the standard constant RPM-value for this fan.
Is there anything I can do?
Help would be much appreciated.

I got an update notice this morning for Macs Fan Control for my MacPro2,1 running 10.7.5. I updated and am now running version 1.2.1. Since the update I have been having what I assume are "thermal shutdowns." While working, my Mac screens will suddenly go black and the computer is unresponsive. I cannot wake it up. I must do a hard restart. Previously it was working fine, but when I came in to my office this morning the fans were spinning extremely fast and very loud while the computer was still sleeping. Must have been doing that all night. Upon waking the computer I saw the upgrade notice, so I upgraded. Any ideas?

1.2 has no differences with the previous version in terms controlling fans/core (read changelog)

I don't undestand - these problems started after the upgrade to 1.2 only?

Yes. Perhaps the upgrade undid my previous settings? Is there a "correct" way to set up which fans are controlled by which sensors? Is there a correct" way to set up the temp ranges? I changed some settings and haven't gotten a thermal crash lately, but ,after sleeping it, it wouldn't wake up—just as it did after my last thermal crash—so perhaps it did crash while I was gone. Is sensor-based better, or worse, than a constant rpm? Core is running at 65º C, but under-load it jumps up to 97º C. What temp is acceptable and what is too high? Thanks for your help.
