Bug when fine-tuning Sensor-based Value... in Fahrenheit!

Post by mfearon »

Just upgraded to Macs Fans Control 1.1.12.1 on a MacBookPro3,1

This drove me nuts when I was trying to adjust Sensor-based Values-
it probably was in the old versions but I never noticed.
I'd go back to check the setting, and they would have changed!
And what is worse, they shrink a little more each time-
can go 5 or 6 times before they settle to "stable" value!

I'm sure this is a little problem...
perhaps the "elevator buttons" for Sensor-based Values when in degF
could select between the allowed celsius levels of of
...86, 95, 104, 113, 122, 131, 140, 149, 158... degF
instead of putting in more levels than are really there.

To demonstrate--
In Preferences, set to Fahrenheit.

Show Macs Fans Control
Fans (double click to control)

Fan control for ‘Left side’ fan (set values to 115 and 133 degF)
* Sensor-based value CPU Diode
Temperature that fan will start to increase from: 115 degF
Maximum temperature: 133 degF
OK

When re-open to check- the numbers have changed!:

Fans (double click to control)
Temperature that fan will start to increase from: 114 degF
Maximum temperature: 132 degF
OK

When re-open to check- the numbers have changed -yet again!

Fans (double click to control)
Temperature that fan will start to increase from: 113 degF
Maximum temperature: 131 degF
OK

This combo of 113 & 131 degFi s stable,
values from 114 to 121 whither to 113,
values from 132 to 139 whither to 131.
Stable values= 86, 95, 104, 113, 122, 131, 140, 149, 158 degF

When I switch Prefs to degC, this doesn’t seem to happen.

The fan control settings "Sensor-based value" and "Constant RPM value"
seem to get forgotten after being entered-
when one selects "Automatic (controlled by system)", and then
switches back to "Sensor-based value" or "Constant RPM value".

This isn't really a bug, but if it isn't a feature, perhaps
the Fan Control settings could be made a little "sticky"--
this could provide a "nano-Profile" that would be
adequate for alot of users, (well, me anyway!)
'til you get a chance to do some
full-blown "Fan Profiles" in rev 2.0-
esp. If you are going to be mucking around
with the Fan Control code
in your copious spare time! :-D
