Feature request: changing Minimum Fan Speed
Hello,
On my MacBookAir4,2 (Mid11 -- 1.7GHz core I5) my minimum fan speed keep changing (I tried resetting SMC several time)
Today I get a 3369RPM whereas yesterday I had a 5639 or something like that...
Hope My SMC resetting worked but I have nothing to check it did...
Anyway I still doubt my minimal fan speed is correct. Shouldn't it be 2000 RPM (My collegues have older/newer MBA with 2000 RPM)?
Is there anything else to do than resetting SMC ? Can we reinstall it ? How do we do that ?
If anyone have an advice it will be welcome !
Anyway, 3369RPM is way better that what I had yesterday, love this silence
Thanks,
XL.

Re: Changing Minimum Fan Speed
Hello,
Thanks for taking time to answer me.
Only Mac Fan Controll is currently installed.
I did install SMCFanControl and a PreferencePanel (don't remember exactly the name) but both are uninstalled.
The high speed fan problem was already there before installing any fan control tool.
Today I have a 2922 minimal fan RPM which is quite good but I don't understand why it keep changing...
Regards,
XL

Well, changing minimum fan speed is planned for future updates. So you'll be able to set default min speed.
Default min speed for you mac is 2000 RPM

Re: Feature request: changing Minimum Fan Speed
Changing the maximum fan speed might not be such a bad idea either. Do you think that's possible?

possible, but it could be very dangerous

Re: Feature request: changing Minimum Fan Speed
Hi,
thanks for the great tool.
Is there any chance to for setting lower SMC speeds than default ? Not as constant, but minimum speed.
Actually I need to use "Fan Control" from MacRumour-Forum setting lower values into SMC , for every fan separately.
"Macs Fan Control" from here reads successfully that values and speeds are controlled by temperature as configured.
My system is very silent with low temps during idle time.
Cheers

Hi,
Definitely.
Definitely.
Re: Feature request: changing Minimum Fan Speed
I would like to endorse the original poster's feature request (changing minimum fan speed) and also be willing to pay for it, if it works. The OS X standard is simply too high on some machines like my imac17,1. Other fan control software won't work on this one (at least not unter El Capitan)
Thank you for your good work!

+1 for this feature request.

I can't think of a situation where I would ever want my computers' fans to be running at slower speeds than what Apple has determined to be the minimum for a given sensor/temperature. If anything, I want the opposite - to keep my machines cooler so that components which can be degraded by prolonged use at high temperatures (like capacitors, which are everywhere inside any Mac) are protected, and my investment in hardware has longer life. I would never want some easily mis-set option (by my mistake or through some software anomaly) to expose my hardware to risk.
I run MFC because I want to set things up so that the higher fan speeds kick in at lower temperatures than the Apple standard, because when I'm running Windows, it's to do some heavy processing, and just running in Windows seems to run my computers hotter than is usual under the Mac OS.
If this option is included in a future release of MFC, please make it very obvious that adjusting the fans to run at slower speeds at higher temperatures is NOT recommended, and has the potential to damage the computer. I'm thinking large font size, in red, flashing, maybe with a big, loud alarm bell...

Re: Feature request: changing Minimum Fan Speed
I completely agree! What did u guys do to the latest update????? Its beyond horrible! My fans dont work at all now! How do I install an older version?
Re: Feature request: changing Minimum Fan Speed
I think this feature is essential. Also having the issue that the minimum rpm are randomly set after every restart. Sometimes it's 1600rpm, sometimes 2200rpm and therefore not reliable to work with (no other fan control tools installed). Would love to fix it to a certain value. I'm on a MacBook Pro 15" late 2016.
