needs restart after wake from sleep (sensor control issue)

Post by sidboggle »

Hi, Macs Fan Control has proved to be a very useful program for me but the one problem I have is that after almost every wake from sleep on my 2010 iMac the fans spin straight up to high rpm again. To get Macs Fan Control to do its thing I always need to exit the program and restart. Things are then fine again until I sleep/Wake the computer the next time.

Is this a known issue?

Thanks.

Yes it was a known issue, the latest version (1.1.5) must work fine.

Thanks for the reply. I am actually using 1.1.5 and it still has the issue unfortunately.

This was taken just after a wake from sleep. The fans are starting to speed up. Thanks.

Hi. Unfortunately it still seems to have the same problem. Although after one wake it did stay stable not requiring a restart so not sure if it is better. I will continue to run this version and provide any further feedback.

Hi, Just an update - it does seem like it still needs to be restarted after the vast majority of wakes from sleep.

I'm having the same problem, running Macs Fan Control 1.1.7 on an iMac 11,2 with OS 10.9. This has been a problem on 10.8 also. It's only affecting the HDD fan, and the HDD is a WD drive that replaced a crashed Seagate drive. The temp cable that is drive specific was supposed to be replaced with a compatible one, but the shop insisted it didn't fit, which is why I've resorted to using Macs Fan Control since the fans normally jump to the max speed without that cable, as we all know by now.

I don't recall having this problem when I first started using MFC about 3 months ago, but I could be mistaken. My technical info is below. Let me know if you need anything else provided or if there's anything I can do to help troubleshoot on my end. Thanks!

Please press the 'L' button in the preferences window, then restart the app - it will enable log.
Then try to reproduce the issue. After it's reproduced, please send us the log file (zipped). Thanks.

PS. I'd use automatic mode for all fans except HDD.

I've emailed a pair of logs. MFC's log only had messages from when it was first started up and from after I restarted it (nothing in the time frame when the iMac was asleep and first waken up when the HDD fan started spinning back up) so I included "All Messages", trimmed from a bit before I stopped using the iMac last night.

Hi. Your product is great has all but solved my noisy iMac. Thank you for this. Although I am experiencing the symptoms described in this thread. Before sleep, the fans are almost entirely silent. After waking from sleep, the fans are loud. Not running at highest speed but still loud. Symptoms occur only when the computer has been asleep for at least ten minutes. A quick sleep and wake didn't produce the symptoms.

I have just woken my Mac. It is currently running noisy. Here is the copy of technical details:

I have the fan control for HDD set to sensor based value of my hard drive temperature. (42 degrees to 52 degrees).

Thanks. Great work.
