Crash on WIN8 after reboot from standby

Post by johntravolta »

Hi,
First of all: let me say this app is a great tool! It has solved a lot of heating problems with my Mac when I'm running Windows 8 in bootcamp.

However, there is an irritating bug: everytime I put windows 8 to hibernate, the app seems to crash, because when I get my mac out of sleep mode, the app is no longer open.

Also, when I click the button: copy technical info, I get the message: "Technical information is copied to the clipboard", but nothing is on my clipboard...
I'm using version 1.1.8.1 build 117

Can anybody help me?

Hi, johntravolta!

1. When the app crashes it must produce a crash report. Does it? Check the app folder.
2. If the app crashed, there should be an entry in Windows Event log

Hi Steven,
Thank you for your response.
Would it be possible to provide me with a specific file name of the crash report please?
I suppose in my situation it should be located in: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Macs Fan Control".
All I seem to find are .dll, .exe and .manifest files?

Ok, there's no crash report, but
If the app crashed, there should be an entry in Windows Event log

Can you give me little bit more guidance what I should be looking for please?

I have gone trough the logs, and searched for macfancontrol.exe. I get a lot of info 'macfancontrol wants to prevent shutdown', but I guess this is normal?
I do have one 'warning' log, containing:
Process 2324 (\Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files\Boot Camp\Bootcamp.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-258387495-255690468-3770427922-1001
Process 5804 (\Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files (x86)\Macs Fan Control\MacsFanControl.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-258387495-255690468-3770427922-1001
Process 5804 (\Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files (x86)\Macs Fan Control\MacsFanControl.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-258387495-255690468-3770427922-1001\Software\CrystalIDEA Software\Macs Fan Control

Does this help?
