Macs Fan Control playing up?

I installed Macs Fan Control after upgrading a hard drive in my os 10.6 imac.
It worked great for a month, but now on Automatic control the hard drive runs flat out.
On sensor based the hard drive gradually gets faster and faster until it runs flat out.
So I have set it to constant of around 2000 which is what it was always running at.
I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, and switching the computer off and restarting, but this didn't fix it.
Is anyone else having this problem?
