Macs Fan Control 1.1.7

Post by macmini »

Hello, I'm here looking for help regarding Macs Fan Control Version 1.1.7.

I'm running a mac mini with OS 10.8.5

I've been MFC for about a year, and I'm very grateful that it exists, and that it's free. But, I keep having an annoying, recurring issue with it:

If I ever have to reboot, shut down etc.. when the computer comes back on, my fans are blowing full blast. It's as if the program can't remember to start up again, even though I have it set as an automatic login item in my user account. The icon is also missing from the top of my screen where the clock, date is etc.

What's more, when I try to click on the Macs Fan Control Application in my folder, nothing happens, nothing launches. Each time this occurs, I have to download the file again, or keep the original ZIP in my download folder to re-install it — every-time.

Why is this happening? And is there a permanent fix for it?

— Thanks

Macs Fan Control 1.1.7 & UPDATED

Post by macmini »

Hello, I've been using Macs Fan Control Version 1.1.7 for over a year, and I want to thank for the app, it works great, with a few exceptions.

I kept getting a message window, "A new version of Macs Fan Control is available for download". The download and install has never actually installed via the download. But today, I went to MacUpdate, and downloaded the newer version 1.2.1, and it installed.

After completing the installation, I now have the following:

1) The original Macs Fan Control application in my applications folder — with the icon in my upper menu bar, and menu bar available:

2) A new entry in my system preferences listed under *Other *named Fan Control, that when clicked on yields this message: http://ibin.co/1wjIsA641iBL

3) The NEW Fan Control display now shows this: http://ibin.co/1wjJczizMafB
I'm just a bit concerned about conflict between the 2 versions. What I can't understand, is why I have the older version 1.2.1 still in my applications folder, AND access to the icon in my upper menu bar, AND the new menu bar within the system preferences folder?

I assumed the newer version would overwrite the older, and consolidate this stuff. Now I have 2 different menus. The original MFC menu where I CAN change the fan speed manually: http://ibin.co/1wjIJVPcTdwX

— and the NEW system preferences Fan Control where I CAN'T change anything: http://ibin.co/1wjJczizMafB

What's happened here? Did I install incorrectly?

I posted as you suggested instead of e-mail. Do you have anything you can lend to my situation?

Much thanks.

This http://ibin.co/1wjJczizMafB is the screenshot of another program (not Macs Fan Control).
You cannot use two fan controlling apps: http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control-faq
