After 1.2.1 update, the main UI is shown in every startup

Post by cprcrack »

I didn't want to update Macs Fan Control. The previous version worked perfectly and didn't want any new feature. However, I was forced to do it because you had the great idea to put an insulting 10 seconds countdown in every start-up telling me to update, even if I already hit the "skip this version" button. It puzzles me how easy it is to ruin the user experience of an otherwise great software with an incredibly dirty behavior that cannot be disabled (no "Check for updates" checkbox as in decent software).

So because of this abusive dialog I was forced to update to version 1.2.1. And now the main UI (where the "Available fans" are listed) is shown in every start-up. Awesome. Of course I have the "Autostart minimized with system" checkbox checked as always, and have tried un-checking and re-checking and restarting several times. Still the UI is shown every time I log in to Windows. It's VERY annoying.

How do I fix this?

Also, could you tell what line do I need to add to the hosts file so that Macs Fan Control stops detecting updates I don't need forever?

Thanks,
Cristian

I can see this in msconfig:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Macs Fan Control\MacsFanControl.exe" /minimized
And can confirm that running that manually actually starts the program minimized. However on startup/login it doesn't work for some reason.

Macs Fan Control creates an autostart entry in Windows task manager (not msconfig)

Well, for some reason there was en entry in msconfig. You didn't answer any of my two questions so I'm gonna answer myself just in case:

I have managed to fix it. Simply uninstalling and reinstalling didn't help. I had to:
  1. 1. Uninstall through "Add or remove programs".
  • 2. Remove all related files and folders in Program Files folder (uninstall didn't remove any file apparently).
  • 3. Open the registry editor. Find all "Macs Fan Control" and "MacsFanControl" entries and delete all of them. Took a while.
  • 4. Install last version normally.
Regarding the update prevention, I have banned "crystalidea.com" through hosts file. Won't know if it works until a new version that I don't need tries to force-install again.
