Access to SMC

I have just re-installed the OSX
I have re-installed Macs Fan Control
However, when I try to change the fan speed I get this error!
"Unable to acquire exclusive access to SMC service. Maybe likely it's in use by another (fan controlling) application. Try to restart the app"
I guess I need to disable the Macs 'built in' fan control ?
