Windows 7 Boot Camp MFC just won't work anymore.

I was using 1.4.2 just fine for awhile, then I rebooted, updated Mac OS (and others), and when booting back into Boot Camp, I only get "Macs Fan Control has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program. Close the Program" dialog box.
I tried rebooting -same.
Uninstalling and reinstalling - same
everything in this topic "MacsFanControl crashes on Windows 7" - same
This includes removing the registry entry and trying to install dev versions.
Installing 1.4 "works, except it only sees my HD and doesn't let me choose anything
I'm at a loss, it literally worked yesterday and now nothing, and always the same error message.
Ideas?
I'm on a retina iMac, (27", i7 4Ghz, Radeon with 4GB memory, 16 gb memory)
