Incorrect fan readings on the new iMacPro

Post by pascalmarquis »

Hello, I used this app on my old iMac and mac book air and it's awesome.
But since I have my new iMac Pro, I have weird with the fan and I'm unable to control anything.
The app show for both of my fans a minimum speed of 32 and maximum of 16.
And the speed of the fans varies between 2000 and 16 000 RPM.
Which is not the case since I think I would ear them if they were running at 16k.

Can you please help me?

Re: Weird Fan Speed Stats

Post by Steven »

Hi,

Looks like the app doesn't work correctly on the new iMacPro.
Unfortunately I don't have this mac to test.
Please download this test version:
https://www.crystalidea.com/downloads/m ... l_beta.zip
enable log file in Preferences, restart the app, and send us the log file located on your desktop.

Thank you.

Thank you for your quick answer Steven,

I have the same problem with the new application.
Here is the log.
Not that iStats pro also show me weird info.
like 167 000 000 RPM and -284 000 000 RPM.

Thanks again!

Hi and thank you for the testing!

Looks like it's the first mac model in more than 10 years when Apple changed SMC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Ma ... Controller) specs.
They use new 'flt' type for smc key where the known 'fp78' was expected.
I couldn't fine anything related to this change in Google, I'm afraid we need to wait till someone does some reverse engineering and sheds some light on the issue.
Apple has never published any public info about SMC. I'll keep everyone informed on the progress in this topic.

Thanks again.

All right,
Thank you for your time, Steven.
I hope to have news from you soon.
No pressure here but your app is kinda of an essential on Mac system since Apple is just so stupid and let their computer burn.

Thanks again!

I've just spoken with Apple care.
When I talk to the guy, he tells me that 95 C is very warm and ask me to do an SMC reset.
So it seems that the iMacPro is still using SMC.
He makes me boot up in safe mode, shut down, hold the power button for 8 seconds (which is the SMC reset) and finally reboot.
I will test in next days if the temperature is cooler.
But still, I can't control the fan speed with your awesome application.
Thanks again!

Hello Steven,

I've seen that you post an update on the forum but it's not there anymore.
My iMac pro was in a box since the last post since I was moving my office.
Now I'm back and ready to test the update when you want.

Thank you!
