Feature request: editable min RPM

The min RPM is set to 3289 and I'm unable to change it. Is this not a user changeable option? If so, why not?

Thanks for a free app though, been hunting for a replacement for Fan Control for a while!

Editing Min RPM is scheduled for next versions.

Fantastic - can you indicate any timeframe for this?

Though the auto setting seems to be quite good for the time being!

No, unfortunately there's no timeframe for this.

Scheduled for version 1.3 (after 1.2)

Macs Fan Control looks like saving my bacon since smcFanControl has apparently started causing problems with WindowServer on 10.9 (happened twice in 4-5 days: lots of messages in Console log before I had to reboot, not even Screen Sharing access to the display, while File sharing and other functions seemed fine).

Thank you!

But I'd like to request editable max fan speeds. I do a lot of Handbrake video transcoding on my iMac11,1, and usually get about 650-700% utilization of the 8 (virtual) cores, which generates a lot of heat on the CPU and power supply over 2-4 hours. Elsewhere in the workflow I do EyeTV compaction of videos, and this works the HDD hard, probably at about max seek/transfer performance, for 10-30 minutes at a time. I sometimes run the transcoding and compaction simultaneously...

With smcFanControl, I was able to create and quickly select preset sets that would set the fans as I wanted for these workflows. The max speeds available through smcFanControl were considerably higher than Macs Fan Control provides.

Although Macs Fan Control doesn't have constant RPM preset sets (another request I'd like to make, though it conflicts with your current model to some degree) the current model would be fine for most of my needs, except…

fans maxes in Macs Fan Control on my iMac are ODD - 3785, HDD - 5478, CPU - 2092 on my iMac, far lower than smcFanControl allowed. The CPU is the real problem for me, as it gets to 80C or so, with Power Supply at 65C or higher.

Don't think I'm running any othe smc-related daemons:

Code: Select all

bayesiMac: ps ax | grep -i smc
 9764 s001 S+ 0:00.01 grep -i smc
bayesiMac: ps ax | grep -i fan
90126 ?? U 8:52.00 /Applications/Utilities/Macs Fan Control.app/Contents/MacOS/MacsFanControl
 9766 s001 R+ 0:00.00 grep -i fan

Neither smcFanControl or MFC (in future 1.3 version) are able to edit max RPM. Only MINimum rpm.

Profiles are scheduled for 1.2 release
