HDD fanspeed randomly jumps to max in bootcamp

As the HDD temparature rises, instead of slowly ramping up the fan speed it jumps up to over 5000 and remains there.
If I go into the settings for this fan, and reconfirm, they then drop to their normal, intermediate speed



TL:DR
Temp hits min threshold value-->fanspeed=MAX and stays there
instead of dynamically adjusting fanspeed.
