Kernel panics
Hi, first I just want to say that of all the fan control programs I've tried I love MFC the best. If it was a paid app I'd buy it. (Ok people please don't shoot me for saying that but it's how I feel). I have a MBP, mid 2012 13" model 9,2, with 10.8.5, all updates, and 16gb of ram. I also have a Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB SSD and everything runs fine.
Every time I update past the 1.1.0 version I get kernel panics and have to back down to the 1.1.0 version. I have tried all I know, but can't seem to resolve it. Ive included a crash report in hopes you could tell me whether it is related to a particular program I may have or what it is.
I truly love the app and would hate to start using another one. It's gotten to the point now where every time I restart I get the update message and have to wait 20 seconds before continuing. I hope I've included everything you need. Thank you

Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
Thank you, the report is received. Could you please give me some more information, how did it happen?
Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
Typically it will happen when I am either surfing the web, and Ill notice my temp will start to rise, probably due to flash content or just cpu usage, and it will panic. other times I can be, burning a dvd and when the cpu gets hot sometimes the fan will ramp up like it is supposed to, and other times it doesn't, and I'll notice that my temps will be like 200 F and then I'll have to go in and manually set the fan speed to 6200 (which is max on my MBP) and then it will finally cool off. But sometimes it will panic before it ever gets up that high. My point is I think it is not responding to the calls for it to ramp up. I don't know whether that causes the panics, I just sometimes see the temp rising and the fan speed not, then it will panic. Hope that helps. If you need further let me know

Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
Does it happen when you manually set some constant RPM value? Or only when using sensor-based control?
I do need to know the values you're using for the sensor-based mode. Please post technical information from the about dialog.
Also we need system log (you can find it in /Applications/Utilities/Console), maybe there're some faulty entries that took precedence of the crash.

Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
It happens when setting MFC to use sensor based control and I have it set to use the CPU Core 1 temp sensor. I will include the info you asked for. The values are currently set at 134 and 150, which were the values it automatically set when I changed it to sensor based control. I didnt change the values, they seemed ok to me. I will email the files. When I try to attach them it states they are too big. Thanks
Sorry about the technical info from the about dialog. I finally understood what you were asking me to do. Sorry..... been ill lately. Thanks

Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
Just browsing the web and had another kernel panic. Was beginning to think that the new version was going to fix it, but seems not. Will include the report.

Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
Please go to Preferences, then press the 'L' button, it will activate log, then restart the app. Please collect all the log till the next panic.
Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
Okay. Log is running. Will let you know. Thank you so much.
finally
Well, it has been weeks and weeks without a panic. I had logging enabled. It just NEVER panicked. So I finally just assumed the newer version had fixed the issue and turned off logging. (Mainly because it kept the logs on my desktop and would not allow me to change its location) Well, about a week and a half after I turned off logging, it panicked. I have the logs from before, and the panic report. Im going to send the panic report. If you want the logs I can send them, but they are from when the program didn't panic. I have re-enabled logging and will keep it logging til it panics. Thank you

ssharber
Could you please try version 1.1.8.1 ? We have improved some of potentially unstable things there.

Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
My pleasure!
Re: Kernel panics with newer versions
less than a day after getting it running, after a long period of no panics, I got one yesterday. Ironically, when I installed the new version, my logging had been disabled. When I went back and tried to re-enable logging, I couldn't get it to enable. Either I forgot how to enable logging, or it just wouldn't enable. So I have just ran it the past day without logging. Ive included the crash report. Please let me know how to rte-enable logging and we'll go from there. Thanks
