Mac fan set minimum speed

Post by mgbigair »

Hello,

I heard setting the minimum speed was going to be implicated a few months ago. Is there an eta on when it will come out? It would be a very useful feature. I have no way of setting my minimum fan speed above 2k on my macbook pro running boot camp. I can only set a constant speed..

Thanks

Yes, it's going to be done soon. We need to collect as much technical information from the About dialog as possible.

Can you share yours?

No problem, as you can see my computer runs very warn with an external display connected. On the mac side of things i like to run the fans at 4k to keep the temps down to a normal 55-70C . But when the computer starts to get really hot i would like the smc to kick into auto. Only way to do that is to set min fan speed which is what i'm sure many other boot camp users would like.

Thanks again for a fast response.

Jumping into the topic, here my techical info. Just to clarify: when talking about setting different minimun fan speed we mean just adjusting the min rpm that the fan spins but when the temps rise the fan speed is control by the system like in auto mode?

Thanks, we didn't have MacMini6,1 in the database.

Yes. But I'm also thinking of changing min speed when using MFC sensor-based mode.

No problem!

The idea changing the min fan speed sensor based mode is great step to a good direction, but I think that the "ultimate" Mac Fan Control will be if you could implement a graph to give the user the ability to map out his own fan speed curves just like the following picture: http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6530/nzxt1.jpg

This, plus the ability to save the curves as profiles, I think is the way to go-I know it's a long one-.

There are a bunch of pc parts makers that have invested in such programs for monitoring and adjusting cooling. These programs work only on windows and sometimes with specified hardware/coolers. If it is any help the most popular are corsair and nzxt. The correspoding links are http://www.corsair.com/en/support/downloads and http://cam.nzxt.com/.
