I just downloaded MFC and I am using it on Mavericks-
it's working great on a balky old MacBookPro4,1 (A1260)
that wants to hang whenever the GPU goes over 138.2degF.
It keeps the GPU within range without crashing!
When I leave the machine sit with the lid up and Idle,
it will drift off to sleep with the fans off-
I can then close the lid and it will wake up later,
when the lid is opened without having drained the battery- perfect!

The problem is when I put it to sleep while it is running- by either:
a. closing the lid, b. putting it to sleep with a menu pulldown, or
c. putting it to sleep with a power button tap (same as b).
It doesn't make that perfect, graceful transition to sleep with fans off-
the fans stay running at the same speed, the mac doesn't go to sleep,
and it crashes- is really hot when try to get it going again--
have to force-power-off and let it cool down for 10 min!
Is there a setting somewhere that I missed?
Perhaps a related "energy saver" in all those Sys Prefs?

Do you mean that MFC prevents the computer to go to sleep mode?

Please post a screenshot of the main window of MFC and post technical information from the about dialog of the app.

Not at all! MFC performs PERFECTLY when the MBP is left idly running with the lid up!
(I apologize for thr detailed, long-winded, confusing description of the problem)
My problem is when I want to slam the lid shut and dash off
with the laptop under my arm...
MFC doesn't automatically go thru the same perfect transition
to a cool, sleeping, non-battery eating state!

MFC version 1.1.7

I am trying to now to test whether I can get the MBP to
"gently" drift-off-to-sleep with the lid open, then
close lid, open lid, close it again (before the screen sleeps),
and see if it sleeps as gently as the first time- hasn't done it yet!

You have a tough road with MFC...
many people with damaged computers try to use it to keep them running.
I thought I had reattached the big heat sink properly with
heat sink compound. but this may not be the only problem.
In my case, I am not familiar with laptops and their cooling problems,
but this mac's SCP did not seem to operate its fans in a manner that
kept the processor from overheating- the fans never got loud, but
setting up MFC to adjust the fans to do this was a cinch!
The system now works for longer period of time,
and I was able to fly xplane for long periods,
pushing the CPU and GPU to the hairy edge of temperature -fans roaring!

Note- I am also using an old program called Temperatur Monitor-
knows all about this old MBP and makes all sorts of whizzy graphs!
Do you think it is conflicting?
